๐Ÿ–๏ธ Fraction Tiles. Fraction tiles can help kids develop an intuitive sense of how fractions work. Use the tiles to find equivalent fractions, compare fractions, find fractions of a whole, and add and subtract fractions. The linked set from Learning Resources includes color-coded fraction tiles up to the twelfths, a tray, and an activity guide. โ€“ Elementary

๐Ÿ–๏ธFraction Circles. Kids are often introduced to fractions as parts of a circle (like pies and pizzas). Fraction circles can help kids visualize a fraction as a part of a whole and to think about equivalent fractions. The linked kit from EAI education contains 9 sets of labeled circles. โ€“ Elementary

๐Ÿ–๏ธ Fraction Tower Set. This set of equivalency cubes, sold by Learning Resources, can be helpful in visualizing the relationship between fractions, decimals and percents. โ€“ All

๐Ÿ’กTip โ€“ Picture books are a fun, low-stress way to introduce new mathematical concepts.

๐Ÿ“– Fraction Action by Loreen Leedy. Hereโ€™s a fun first introduction to fractions for the younger crowd. Covers fractions of a whole, fractions of a set, and subtraction of fractions. As always, Leedy gives plenty of real-world examples. Also see: Whole-y Cow! Fractions are Fun by Taryn Souders. โ€“ Preschool โ€ข Elementary

๐Ÿ“– Fraction Fun by David Adler. This short, hands-on introduction to fractions covers a good bit of groundโ€”parts of a fraction, drawing fractions, equivalent fractions, and more. Parents will need to supply more detail and much more practice, but this is a fine supplemental resource. โ€“ Elementary

๐Ÿ“– Multiplying Menace: The Revenge of Rumplestiltskin and The Multiplying Menace Divides by Pam Calvert. If you are looking for a picture book explanation of the multiplication and division of fractions, then look no further. Calvert's two math-based Multiplying Menace stories give a satisfactory introduction to these concepts; concrete information is provided at the end. โ€“ Elementary

๐Ÿ“– The Wishing Club by Donna Jo Napoli. The Wishing Club offers a gentle introduction to addition of unlike fractions: "Petey wishes on the first star he sees, but instead of the dollar he hopes for, he gets only a quarter. The next night his little brother Joey wishes for a cookieโ€•and gets just half of one. The twins, Sally and Samantha, don't fare much better. Try as they might, the children each wind up with a fraction of what they wished for. Can they figure out how to combine their wishes to wind up with one whole, happy pet?" Here is the rare math-centric picture book that is also a really sweet story. โ€“ Elementary
